RE:                  Timeline for Release of Information Regarding Proposed Modifications in             the Implementation of Maine’s Learning Results

Though we anticipated that there would be a public announcement this Friday or early next week on proposed modifications to the implementation of Maine’s Learning Results, it appears at this moment that the timeline for any public statements by Governor Baldacci, myself, and other educational stakeholders will be delayed until the first part of April.  We anticipate that the announcement will coincide with the Education Committee’s hearings on the numerous bills related to Maine’s Learning Results and the Local Assessment System.

I am aware that much discussion is currently underway about the nature of the proposals currently under discussion.  I am also aware that districts are engaged in ongoing work developing Local Assessment Systems and other related tasks, and are eager to know how that work might be affected by any forthcoming changes.  It is important to bear in mind that the announcement of proposed modifications will be the first step in a public process which must be completed before proposals become formalized.

Your patience with us and understanding about the complexities of “life in Augusta” are much appreciated.  I look forward to the upcoming public discussion of our proposals, learning together from our recent experiences to increase the likelihood of successful attainment of our vision.
