RE:                   U.S. Department of Education Publications

The United States Department of Education is publishing a series of six books called Innovations in Education to help districts implement specific areas of the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB).  Three of those books are currently available free of charge from the U.S. Department of Education.  These books describe creative ways in which school systems have met the opportunities and challenges of NCLB in offering school choice, providing supplemental services and creating charter schools.  Three other books regarding magnet schools, teacher certification and school leadership will be published this fall.

Each book includes details of implementing one aspect of NCLB, and offers profiles of districts that have experience in informing parents, building infrastructure, supporting schools and improving programs over time.

The three books available now are:

Creating Strong District Choice Programs (May 2004)

Creating Strong Supplemental Educational Services Programs (May 2004)

Successful Charter Schools (June 2004)

The first three of the series are available at
