INFORMATIONAL LETTER: 54

POLICY CODE: FJ

TO:                             Superintendents of Schools

FROM:                       J. Duke Albanese, Commissioner

DATE:                        February 22, 2002

SUBJECT:                 Capital Asset Management Software Training

In December, you received notice of the first training sessions to implement the Capital Asset Management portion of the Maine School Facilities Management Template. To date, four sessions have been completed and staff from 40 districts have been trained in the use of the VFA.facility software. Additional sessions will be scheduled each month to enable districts that have not received training to attend, and for additional personnel to become trained in those districts already using the software. Each session provides two full days of training.

The next sessions are scheduled for Auburn on March 21-22, 2002 and in Belfast on April 2-3, 2002. Attendance at each session is limited to 10 participants. If you are interested in attending either of these sessions, or a future session, please contact Jay Readinger at the Department at jay.readinger@state.me.us.

If you or members of your staff would like to attend a session later in the year, please email Jay Readinger at the address above with your preferred dates and location. Once sufficient requests from an area of the State are received, we will plan a training session in a convenient location.

Use of the VFA.facility software is not required of districts at this time. It is, however, a requirement that each district have a ten-year capital renewal plan and an up to date analysis of their major building systems. While there are other ways to obtain and maintain this data, the State is providing this software to you at no cost as part of the Facilities Management Template.

If you have questions about the Template or these training opportunities, please contact Jay Readinger at the Department at jay.readinger@state.me.us .
