SUBJECT:          New Teacher Induction Pilot Site Participation

 

            I am pleased to let you know that the Teacher Quality Enhancement Project, AARBEC, (Advancing the Agenda for Results-Based Certification) is now inviting LEA participation as pilot sites.  Building upon Maine’s existent teacher support system, the work of the pilot sites, in conjunction with AARBEC, will result in a statewide teacher support system model, which will provide beginning teachers with high quality, continuous support that is consistent across the state. The induction process will be a required component for new teachers seeking professional certification. The ultimate success of this initiative is dependent upon the commitment and participation of local districts.  As has been the case so often in the past in the State of Maine, reform efforts have resulted in the greatest success when teachers have been fully and actively involved.  This invitation to participate focuses on school district level certification support systems interested in playing a role in the design of Maine’s teacher induction process.

 

I am asking you to be on the watch for the pilot site applications, and consider investing your time and human capital as a pilot site. I recognize that there are a number of initiatives that are engaging many of you.  We must think long-range regarding support of both new and experienced teachers, and create a system that will ensure that support and mentoring occurs equitably across all school districts. At the root of student success are well-prepared teachers who, with support, are more likely to become the high quality teachers we need.
