About our Guest Speakers - Lynn Kuzmich will be presenting at Level II Literacy as well as deliver a keynote at our Literacy Leadership Team Academy. Jeff Wilhelm will also be presenting at the Literacy Leadership Team Academy.

 

~ Level II Literacy Training ~

Where/When: July 23-24 at Colby College $200.00 per person (includes 1 overnight)

Facilitator: Lin Kuzmich

Who should attend?

  • Educators who wish to increase their knowledge about literacy
  • Educators who have attended Level I literacy training with CET or CTE in past summers,
  • and/or Literacy leaders, principals, superintendents, curriculum leaders, specialists and coaches

You will:

  • Learn cutting edge information about the adolescent brain and effective literacy instruction
  • Explore the importance of teaching document, technological and quantitative literacy
  • Learn unconventional literacy strategies to support teachers of math, science and career and technical education
  • Learn how to use vocabulary as a gateway to higher level thinking
  • Network with other Maine educators to improve literacy

 

~Literacy Leadership Team Academy~ “Unleashing Powerful Literacy Learning”

Where/When: July 25-27, 2007 at Colby College $325.00 per person (includes overnights)

Facilitators and presenters: We have two outstanding National Guest Speakers for our academy in addition to outstanding local facilitators for our strands!! You won’t want to miss this!

Who should attend?

  • Middle school, high school and CTE literacy and/or leadership teams wanting to maximize literacy learning in their schools
  • Each team should include teachers, as well as administrators wanting to focus upon and leverage the very things that will “make a difference in student learning”

You will:

  • Learn about the Elements of Powerful Literacy Learning and learn to use the components of the Literacy Schoolkit
  • Jigsaw and learn together with other Maine teachers in five strands, then share your new expertise with your school team:
  • Acquire skills and knowledge that will benefit all of your students, even those who have been a challenge before

  3. Assessment for learning
  4. School teams that get results
  5. Literacy support for every student

 

~ Level I Literacy Training ~

Facilitators: From your regional area

Who should attend?

  • Middle, high school and CTE teaching staff wishing to learn basic literacy strategies that will enhance student learning in all content areas
  • Principals, CTE directors and curriculum coordinators

You will:

  • Learn how to make your classroom SIZZLE with literacy and learning
  • Master critical instructional skills that empower every student to achieve at high levels in your content area(s)
  • Expand your repertoire of teaching strategies
  • Take away an outstanding resource of literacy strategies for classroom teachers
