Allagash Wilderness Waterway
Revision to 1999 Management Plan

The Allagash Wilderness Waterway stretches 92-miles from its southernmost point, Telos Dam in T6 R11 WELS, to its northernmost point at Twin Brook in Allagash Village, just a few miles above the confluence of the Allagash and Saint John Rivers. Established by the Maine State Legislature in 1966 and
designated by the U.S. Department of the Interior in 1970 as the first state-administered component of the National Wild and Scenic River System, the Waterway is dear to the hearts of many outdoor recreation enthusiasts.
Planning
Currently, the Maine Bureau of Parks and Lands is involved in a planning process that will culminate with an approved update to the 1999 Management Plan, the plan currently guiding management on the Waterway. The new plan will serve as the active plan for the next 15 years. This web page serves those looking for information on the plan update process and ways to get involved.
Public Involvement
As dates are chosen for public meetings, meeting times and locations will be posted below, under "News, Announcements, and Meeting Notes". Additionally, items such as agendas and meeting notes will be made available for download.
The Bureau of Parks and Lands staff persons working on the plan update expect and hope to hear from the public, as public input is crucial to make the plan as effective as possible. The primary contact for the planning process is:
