More information

Stream Smart Phase II is a field oriented technical workshop extension of the principles of Stream Smart de-sign for ecological road crossings. Participants will learn how to assess a road/stream crossing, gathering the information needed to develop a conceptual design for a replacement open bottom stream crossing.

Information gathered will include: a surveyed longitudinal profile, gradient, riffle/pool spacing, bankfull width measurements, cross sectional transects of a reference reach, and stream substrate composition.

Following the ?hands on? field portion of the workshop, participants will enter data and interpret the information. The end result will be a conceptual preliminary design for a Stream Smart crossing replacement structure. Stream Smart workshops are designed to provide training for professionals responsible for road-stream crossings. Participants in this workshop will receive continuing education credits for the Maine Department of Environmental Protection?s Voluntary Contractor Certification Program.

Online Registration at maineaudubon.org/stream-smart Workshops are offered in four different locations in Maine?content is the same for all workshops.
