The Department of Environmental Protection - Division of Solid Waste Management is offering training sessions to transfer station operators and municipal officials to help improve the operation and overall management of transfer stations. This class will discuss how to identify and manage hazardous and special wastes, including household hazardous wastes, universal wastes, and lead and asbestos. Requirements for Hazardous Waste Exclusion Plans and reporting obligations for transfer stations will also be covered.

You may attend the training either in-person OR on-line via Teams

Important: Each person that attends either in-person or on-line MUST register using the link below to receive a certificate of course completion. In-person seating is limited, and we can only guarantee a space for everyone who has registered. If you register for in-person attendance but are not able to make it, inform us ASAP so that we can offer that space to someone else.

This class is free of charge. Attendees should bring their own snacks or lunch. Registration for the morning session begins at 8:30 AM and the class will run from 9:00-1:00. Contact Randee McDonald at 207-451-2554 or randee.mcdonald@maine.gov with any questions.

TO JOIN THE CLASS ONLINE

After you register, you will receive a link to the meeting. Using this link, you can join the Teams meeting via computer, cellphone, or portable device, whether or not you have a Teams account. You may join as early as 8:30 AM to test your setup, troubleshoot, or see how Teams works, but meeting organizers and participants won't be notified that you've joined the meeting until 15 minutes before the scheduled 9:00 AM start time.

  • Go to the meeting invite email and select JOIN EVENT
  • This will open a web page, where you'll see two choices: Continue on this browser and Join on the Teams app. You may join on your browser if you don't have the Teams app installed.
  • Your browser may ask if it's okay for Teams to use your mic and camera. Select Allow.
  • The meeting will be preset to have your mic muted and your camera off.
  • When you're ready, select Join now.
  • You will enter a meeting lobby, where someone in the meeting will admit you.

To ask a question or make a comment, raise your hand by using the Show Reactions menu at the top and choose the "Raise Hand" button. The meeting presenter will receive a notification that your hand is raised. The host will make you a presenter, say your name, and you must unmute yourself by clicking on the microphone to be heard.
