To assure a transparent and inclusive process the department makes every attempt to provide the public with timely information on current rulemaking.

  • Newspapers: DEP publishes rulemaking notices in the legal sections of five papers: the Kennebec Journal, Lewiston Sun, Morning Sentinel, Portland Press Herald and Bangor Daily News.

  • The Department offers an electronic rulemaking notification service: If you would like to receive electronic notification for all DEP rulemakings, contact Mike Karagiannes, at (207-287-7024). Paper notification by mail is also available for a fee.
