Municipal Solid Waste - Recycled

Maine residents, municipalities and commercial businesses recycled 40% of the municipal solid waste they generated in 2012.

It is the goal of the State to reduce the amount of municipal solid waste disposed of each year and to recapture materials from the waste stream through reuse, recycling and composting activities. Overall, the tonnage of waste generated has decreased by 15.5% from 2007 to 2012, and the percentage recycled has increased by 5% during this same period.
