Robert H. Reny opened the first Renys in Damariscotta in 1949 and it's still there today. Now in its third generation of family ownership and operation, the Renys business model focuses on selling quality goods at discounted prices. The business buys overruns, factory seconds and closeouts and passes on those savings to its customers. Their consistent low prices on practical and quality merchandise have earned them a large measure of trust amongst their loyal customer base.
Renys carries kitchen wares, tools, toys, clothes, shoes, holiday décor, seasonal goods, and everything in between. Though people from outside Maine may think shopping at Renys lives up to its slogan, "A Maine adventure," for many Mainers, Renys isn't a nostalgic outing but a weekly shopping stop for lots of Maine-life necessities. Where else can you get Little Lad's Herbal Corn, Italian seasoning, long johns, tomato cages, a blender, Pic coils, and a new set of muck boots all in one stop?
Employing over 500 Mainers in more than twenty locations across the state, Renys is certainly a Maine tradition.
