Giffords Ice Cream
Gifford's Ice Cream Stand in Skowhegan.
Mainers love ice cream. Even in cold weather. And buggy summer nights do not dissuade cone lovers from standing in long lines outside a roadside ice cream stand. Among the perennial winners of “Best” lists in Maine is Gifford’s ice cream.
Originally a dairy farm business, the Gifford family expanded into ice cream after friends and neighbors praised the homemade batches they made using family recipes. Persuaded they were onto something, the Gifford family opened its first ice cream stand in Skowhegan in 1980.
Today, the family makes ice cream, frozen yogurt, sherbets, and sorbets in 100 flavors, including the ever popular Moose Tracks, Wild Maine Blueberry, Peanut Butter Pie, and Campfire S’mores. Sold at its own family-operated stands and across the state, Gifford’s ice cream is one of the state’s most recognizable family-owned food brands and a summertime tradition for many – and not just Mainers. Gifford’s ice cream is a repeat World Dairy Expo Ice Cream Grand Champion.
