Given the current health climate, our office is practicing personal hygiene, social distancing, and other precautions in compliance with Maine CDC recommendations. The State Postal Center provides a wide range of mail services for State agencies, including interoffice mail. Mail is collected, distributed and processed daily using the latest automated equipment. The Postal Center offers a variety of vendors (U.S.P.S, UPS, Fed-Ex, etc) giving customers multiple speed and cost options. The Postal Center presorts and bar codes mail which enables it to receive discounted rates from the United States Postal Service.

MAIL PROCESSING +

State Postal processes all outgoing and incoming mail generated by state agencies within the Augusta, Gardiner and Hallowell area. State Postal also sorts interoffice mail and incoming mail from the United States Post Office. We also process UPS and FedEx for daily pick up at our facility at 85 Leighton Rd. ?State postal also picks up certified (accountable mail) and (express) mail pieces from the USPS.? After arriving at our facility each certified piece is recorded in our send suite mail tracking system. State Postal staff is equipped with a scanner for the customer to sign to insure record of delivery and tracking capability for our customers. Announcement Memo

Starting September 26, 2016 the State of Maine's Postal Operations will be using the following form for the requisition of USPS Stamps. SOR #001. You may submit your stamp request through the State of Maine's internal mail services. Please remember to attach a meter card to each SOR #001. form before submitting it. State Postal will deliver requested stamps within three business days from receiving your request. If you need stamps earlier that that please note it on the requisition form and we will try to accommodate your needs.

PICKUP & DELIVERY +

State postal provides daily pickup and delivery of First Class, Certified, Priority and interoffice mail five days a week. Delivery and Pickup times are on a regular pre-set daily schedule however may very due to road conditions and traffic. Discounted mail is delivered by State Postal to the USPS no later than 4:00 pm daily. We accept outgoing mail up to 3:30 pm and will process your mail until 4:30 pm with the exception that the customer will deliver to the USPS. INTER OFFICE MAIL +

Mail should be enclosed in a standard inter office mail envelope and addressed with a legible State House Station number, department/division, and name. We do not sort to individual employee names nor are we responsible for final distribution after delivery. We suggest that interoffice mail not be mixed with regular mail that is to be metered or sent to the USPS. APPLYING POSTAGE +

Much of the mail leaving state agencies is mail that needs postage applied, this is called metered mail. Agencies are required to attach a barcoded meter card; the card must have a legible name and current phone number. The service you are requesting must be circled so as to insure proper postage be applied. Mail received without a properly filled out meter card may be delayed until a contact can be reached. It?s recommended that each mail piece show a complete return address. Meter cards currently can be ordered at Central Print 287-6375.

PERMIT MAIL +

A mailing permit is permission to use a certain postage payment method for bulk and discounted mailings. BUSINESS REPLY & POSTAGE MAIL +

Business reply and postage due mail is picked up daily in the A.M. from the United States Post office. After arrival at State Postal it is broken down and separated to State House Station numbers. Over 130 different account numbers are used to bill back the appropriate State Agencies. A normal day we can receive 500 to 2000 mail pieces. MAIL INSERTING SERVICES +

Currently State Postal has 2 inserters that can put up to six (6) machine folded inserts including a return envelope into a #10 envelope. Envelopes are stuffed and securely sealed and postage is applied. Our inserters can handle envelopes with any flap style. Flap depth should not exceed 1 7/8th inch deep. FOLDING +

We fold material in sizes from 8.5x11(letter) to 11x17 folded into a booklet form. For folding charges please call us at 287-4669.

OCR MAIL SORTING +

Sorting your mail saves your agency money on postage. State Postal currently has two sorters. In 2014 State Postal discounted over 8 million pieces of mail. Five days a week every piece of letter mail that meets the criteria is processed through these sorters with the exception of pieces with hand written addresses, flats, and mail received after 1:00 pm that can?t be held to the next day.
