Training and Certification
The Property Tax Division provides three introductory courses in property tax administration for local assessors that are offered periodically at various locations throughout the state. Certified Maine Assessors must complete at least 16 hours of classroom training each year to maintain certification.

Advanced Assessor Certification Application - for an individual CMA requesting certification as a CMA-2, CMA-3, or CMA-4.
Advanced Assessor Recertification Application - for an individual applying for recertification through the annual continuing education requirements for CMA-2, CMA-3, and CMA-4.
Continuing Education
Property Tax Institute. The Property Tax Division offers a three-day spring seminar covering advanced assessing topics. This program is called the Property Tax Institute and will offer continuing education through specialized training for existing Certified Maine Assessors.

Property Tax School. The Property Tax Division conducts an annual one-week educational event called the Maine Property Tax School. The School provides introductory courses as well as more advanced material, and serves as preparation for the eight-hour certification exam, administered on the Friday of School week, as well as at least three other times each year.
IAAO Course. In the fall, the Property Tax Division hosts a week-long IAAO course for assessors.

Request for Pre-approval Certification/ Recertification Credit - To request continuing education credit for an assessor training course, seminar or meeting.
Uniform Request for Recertification Credit - for an individual CMA attending an event that has not been pre-approved for credit.
Free online workshop for IAAO members. IAAO is offering an online version of Workshop 171: IAAO Standards of Professional Practice and Ethics. This seven hour workshop is free for IAAO members ($89 for nonmembers). This workshop qualifies for advanced assessor training and for the ethics requirement for assessors (7 CE hours).
