OLDER WORKERS COMMITTEE MEETING

11/13/2018

Present: Don Harden, Susan Gatti

Staff: Cheryl Moran

The meeting opened with welcome and introductions.

Cheryl Moran briefly spoke about the 2018 Silver Collar Employer Awards that were presented in person at the employer's place of business stating once again, the employers were absolutely thrilled about being recognized as "senior friendly employers".

Committee members also discussed about certain barriers that may prevent older workers from re-entering the workforce or maintaining their employment. Basic computer skills - a huge issue. Age related bias - some employers are not very flexible in addressing those gaps. Awareness need employer engagement, not really getting the message out. The workforce tends to focus more on youth than the older worker. Broadband situation.

Goals for 2019:

  1. How to strategize awareness to employers to understand the value older workers provide to businesses.

  2. This committee would like to be the voice to the new administration.

  3. Silver Collar Employer Award scoresheets need to be updated to match the application.

Respectfully submitted by Cheryl Moran
