OLDER WORKERS COMMITTEE MEETING

09/11/18

Present: Peter Letourneau, (Chair), Don Harden, Melinda Wildes, (phone), Sandra Butler, (phone)

Staff: Cheryl Moran

Peter Letourneau opened the meeting with welcome and introductions.

The Silver Collar Employer Award entry deadline ended August 18 and committee members submitted their score sheets and the scores were tallied. Everyone agreed on the employers ranked 1st through 4th. Community Living Association received the highest score - 111, Loving Touch In-Home Care - 110. The Nonantum Resort - 107, and Couleur Collection LLC - 106. Cheryl Moran explained that the winners now need to go through a vetting process with the Bureau of Unemployment Compensation, and the Bureau of Labor Standards to make sure these employers are free of any violations. Once the vetting is complete, the notification letter will be sent to the winners and the letter of regret to the non-winners. The winners will be notified including a press release and an announcement at the State Workforce Board meeting during National Employ Older Workers week, which is the last week of September. Committee members mentioned that they would like to change a couple of questions on the score sheet. Cheryl Moran asked members to submit their suggestions to her via email.

The group discussed about having a goal to work on in 2019. Maybe it might be just the Silver Collar Award? But everyone agreed that having a goal would make this committee more appealing to join. The group was asked to think about it and they will do more brainstorming at the next meeting in November.

Meeting adjourned.

Next meeting: November 13, 2018 10:00am – Noon Central Maine Commerce Center Marion Martin room

Respectfully submitted by Cheryl Moran
