OLDER WORKER COMMITTEE MEETING

05/22/2018

Welcome and Introductions: Cheryl Moran opened the meeting with welcomes and introductions. Peter Letourneau was officially appointed “Chair” of the committee.

Silver Collar Award: Committee members suggested to adapt best practices from the Age Smart Award which mirrors our Silver Collar Award. Cheryl Moran stated she will look over the application to see if the application needs to incorporate best practices from the Age Smart Award. The scoring sheets also need to be amended so they will better match the application. Silver Collar Award launch date for 2018, mid-June.

At the last committee meeting, Don Harden suggested adding a question to the Silver Collar Award application in reference to Alzheimer’s/Dementia. The committee decided that is a clinical problem and they are not qualified to identify.

Expanding outreach – suggestion: Do a follow-up with past winners to see if they can recommend other employers.

Awareness Campaign on Aging in the Workplace: Suggestion: • Coordinate with other committees a presentation on aging in the workforce. • Have experts come in to provide resources that are available. Other Ideas: • Public Service announcement • Target employers • “Organizations” to partner with • Have the CareerCenter post on their Facebook page a message/graphics • Next year’s SHRM Convention, put out a call for a workshop or presentation This committee needs to have collaborative relationships to promote awareness on aging in the workforce.
