• Denise Smith opened the meeting with welcomes and introductions.

• First on the agenda was Scott Burnett from Destination Occupation. Destination Occupation is an on-line community connecting education and career planning that enables job seekers and students to better understand Career Pathways. Presently, they are working with companies that have challenges. They want to get companies to use DO videos in reference to different jobs so they will be able to expand knowledge with an in-depth view. Scott stated they are in the process to plan and create content to make it available to schools and CareerCenters. DO videos are very personal with real people in real jobs so the job seeker and student can decide what they like/not like about the company. After viewing the DO videos, the job seeker and student will be more informed to make a career choice. He also stated they want to create a 3 minute video because students are engaged with technology instead of reading. • Scott Good ? stated going through schools makes a lot of sense to get the information out there. • Dave Wurm ? stated information on the DO website was well received by students. • Mike Jordan ? Occupation vs employer? Mike was concerned about reaching out to employers in Northern Maine. • Scott Burnett ? based on relationships with companies, we want to reach out to employers statewide. Scott mentioned MBOX technology can direct a student to a link to where to obtain training.

• Discussion on Making Youth Employment Work: Essential Elements for a Successful Strategy • Denise Smith ? asked the Committee members what they thought of the reading material. Denise and other Committee members thought it was National employers vs Maine employers. Denise felt that some of the information/strategy may not work for Maine. Too much to expect. Can it work? Are we doing something wrong? The challenge is getting employers investing up-front. Up-front investment is a bit more difficult. • Scott Good ? feels there is interest out there. Investing in our future (Youth). Scott also stated executive level of support really makes a big difference. Results are much greater.

• Updates on WIOA • Cheryl Moran provided an update of the WIOA Youth Meeting Garret Oswald, Maine State Workforce Investment Board Director recently attended in Washington, DC. Cheryl stated under WIOA, there is a renewed focus on serving Youth. The focus will be on 3 key items: 1. Emerging challenge and opportunities for serving out-of-school Youth 2. Building capacity and plan of action for serving out-of-school Youth 3. Expanding leadership role of employers (more employer engagement) • Janie Small ? WIOA is awesome! Excited about changes and how it will work for young people. • Denise Smith ? described what she likes about WIOA. More clear. Clarity. • Meg Harvey ? asked where she can access the WIOA Newsletters. • Cheryl Moran ? stated she will email the information to all Committee members. • Denise Smith ? stated further/future information on WIOA, she can forward via email.

• Committee Membership and 2015 Meetings • Denise Smith ? thought the Committee was lacking juvenile justice. She asked Committee members if there is anyone to recommend or other membership. The Committee decided to have future meetings every other month. Denise stated that she and Cheryl will work on scheduling future meetings.

• Approval of 4/30/15 Minutes • Denise Smith asked for approval of minutes. • Janie Small stated before approval, a correction needs to be made. The correction should state ?$14,980 performance standard wage gain for Youth in Washington County?. • Denise Smith asked for approval with correction. Dave Wurm motioned. Janie Small seconded. Minutes approved. Denise asked if any other comments or recommendations for agenda at the next meeting, please forward to her.

• Meeting adjourned

Respectfully submitted by Cheryl Moran
