Tax Relief

Maine Revenue Services administers several programs aimed at providing eligible Maine taxpayers with tax relief. The following tax relief programs are administered by the Income/Estate Tax Division.

Maine Residents Property Tax and Rent Refund "Circuit Breaker" Program Maine FastFile

Eligible Maine residents can receive a partial refund of property taxes assessed and/or rent paid during 2011 on their primary residence. The program begins August 1, 2012 and ends May 31, 2013.

The program for refunds of property taxes assessed and/or rent paid during 2010 ended May 31, 2012.

Business Equipment Tax Reimbursement Program (BETR)

Get a rebate of personal property tax paid on eligible business equipment.

Employment Tax Increment Financing (ETIF)

Note: This link leads to the Department of Economic and Community Development web site.

Qualified businesses may receive reimbursement of up to 80% of Maine income taxes withheld for employees under an approved ETIF program for up to 10 years.

Pine Tree Development Zone Program (PTDZ)

Qualified businesses may be eligible for income tax, employee tax withheld and sales tax benefits, plus more!
