Make a floor plan of your home ...

  • Identify safe places to go in case of fire, hurricane or flood
  • Practice a fire drill

Check your cupboards. Do you have these items? If not, pick them up at the grocery store this week.

  • 1 gallon water (one for each member of the family)
  • 1 can of meat, fruit and vegetables each for each family member (remember special foods for special diets, if needed)
  • 2 rolls of toilet paper
  • Extra toothbrush
  • Travel size toothpaste

Feed your car, avoid a freezing

October 30, 2009

Before winter begins, put together a winter storm survival kit for your vehicle. Take that old coat, those old clothes, and that old pair of boots that you want to throw away (or your wife wants you to throw away), put them all in a duffle bag, and throw them in the back of your vehicle. Also, throw in a sleeping bag and/or warm blankets. High calorie, non-perishable foods should be included as they will help your body stay warm if you become stranded for a prolonged period of time.
