Families with Unique NeedsDoes someone in your household have a disability? Does your grandmother live alone in an old house that loses power every time the wind blows? Is your neighbor down the street deaf or hard-of-hearing? Every family and neighborhood in Maine is unique. But some families or individuals face special challenges. Living with a disability, or just growing old doesn't mean you give up your independence. It doesn't always mean you need extra help. Being realistic about your challenges, and making plans for your own safety is the boldest statement about independence you can make. We offer some specific ideas below to promote your safety and emergency preparedness if your household includes someone with these unique needs. Or perhaps this information is a start to offering someone in your neighborhood a helping hand.
