Space blankets, the final frontier

November 29, 2009

Will a Mylar space blanket save you at 40 below in blizzard-force winds? Of course not! A good space blanket, however, will reflect back a lot of your heat -- they're used by rescuers of all sorts. Having one in your car might just help keep you cozy when you're broken down in East Moosejaw, Saskatchewan. Shoes and flashlight ...

  • Place a pair of sturdy shoes and a flashlight by your bed so they are handy in an emergency.

Keep working on that first aid kit. Check to make sure you have these items. If not, stop by the grocery store and pick them up.

  • Scissors
  • Tweezers
  • Thermometer
  • Liquid antibacterial hand soap
  • Disposable hand wipes
  • Needles
  • Petroleum jelly or other lubricant
  • 2 tongue blades
Also, extra eyeglasses, if needed. Put them in your first aid kit.
