Grilling on charcoal today? Make sure it's only the food that gets broiled.

With charcoal grills, use only charcoal starter fluids designed for barbecue grills. Do not add fluid after the coals have been lit. (Information courtesy of the Maine State Fire Marshal.)

Make a floor plan of your home ...

  • Identify safe places to go in case of fire, hurricane or flood
  • Practice a fire drill

Check your cupboards. Do you have these items? If not, pick them up at the grocery store this week.

  • 1 gallon water (one for each member of the family)
  • 1 can of meat, fruit and vegetables each for each family member (remember special foods for special diets, if needed)
  • 2 rolls of toilet paper
  • Extra toothbrush
  • Travel size toothpaste
