Why shouldn't I just drive through a flooded road?

Nearly half of all flash flood fatalities are vehicle related.

Six inches of water will reach the bottom of most passenger cars causing loss of control and possible stalling.
A foot of water will float many vehicles.
As little as two feet of water can carry away most vehicles including sport utility vehicles (SUV’s) and pick-ups. If your vehicle begins to float, you lose complete control over the vehicle.
Even if flooding has receded, flood waters may have undercut the road surface or left dangerous debris in the roadway.
