Frequently Asked Questions
Why shouldn't I just drive through a flooded road?
Nearly half of all flash flood fatalities are vehicle related.
- Six inches of water will reach the bottom of most passenger cars causing loss of control and possible stalling.
- A foot of water will float many vehicles.
- As little as two feet of water can carry away most vehicles including sport utility vehicles (SUV’s) and pick-ups. If your vehicle begins to float, you lose complete control over the vehicle.
- Even if flooding has receded, flood waters may have undercut the road surface or left dangerous debris in the roadway.
