About
Rep. Jackson
Rep. Troy D. Jackson was born and raised in the St. John Valley.
He graduated from Allagash Consolidated Community High School in
Allagash and from the University of Maine at Fort Kent with a business
degree.
He works as a logger in northern Maine.
Rep. Jackson is a strong labor advocate, who in recent years has
led the cause for fair wages for loggers and independent truckers.
He has also sponsored several pieces of legislation to address
logging issues. Rep. Jackson, who is serving his third term,
serves as House chair on the Joint Standing Committee on Inland
Fisheries and Wildlife and is a member of the Joint Standing
Committee on Labor.
He is a member of the Governor’s Advisory Council on the
Sustainability of the Forest Products Industry in Maine, which
is charged with developing recommendations to improve the competitiveness
of Maine’s forest products industry nationally and internationally. Rep. Jackson joined the Democratic Party in January 2004 because
he believes that as a member of the party he can more successfully
influence state legislative action on small business development
and creating high quality jobs that pay a living wage. He resides in Fort Kent with his wife, Lana Pelletier, and their
two children, Chace and Camden.

Issues
My vision for Maine and especially for District 1 includes
good jobs, healthy small businesses and tax relief for middle
and lower-income
Mainers. Health care is another vital interest for our hard-working
Maine families.

Legislation
Affordable and Accessible Health Insurance
The Dirigo
Health plan will bring universal access to health insurance
in Maine. By pooling resources it will help responsible small
businesses who have struggled to provide affordable health coverage
to their workers, and will help individual Maine employees and
residents who cannot find or afford health insurance. Empowering Forest Products Workers
I am proud to support LD
1318, An Act To Provide Collective Bargaining Rights to Certain
Forest Products Workers, which allows individual
forest products harvesters and haulers to join together to bargain
with forest landowners over the prices and other terms of contracts
for harvesting and hauling trees in Maine forests. Protecting Abuse Victims
Judges are now allowed, following the passage of LD
1568, An Act To Protect Plaintiffs and Minor Children in Certain
Civil Protection
Order Cases, to keep a defendant in a protection from abuse case
from possessing a gun or other dangerous weapon. The bill was
negotiated with many groups, included the Sportsman’s Alliance
of Maine, which agreed that it provides necessary protection
to women without infringing on Mainers’ rights to own firearms.
The bill incorporates proven indicators of increased risk of
death in domestic violence situations to help the court determine
when it is appropriate to prohibit defendants from posessing
a gun.
