Representative Stanley B. Short, Jr.
Rep. Stanley B. Short Jr. is serving his second term in the House of Representatives, where he aims to bring jobs to the state and support Maine’s hardworking people. Short is proud to serve on the Legislature’s Joint Standing Committee on Inland Fisheries and Wildlife. A lifelong Mainer, Short believes the work of the committee will have a positive effect on the well-being of Maine and its people by promoting the outdoor economy and protecting natural resources so hunting and fishing opportunities will be available to future generations.
Short has a broad business background in Maine’s fundamental industries and understands the perspectives of the union, management and business owners. Short is a retired certified pipe welder and labor representative.
Short is an avid bird hunter and bird dog trainer and enjoys freshwater fishing throughout Maine and beyond. He was instrumental in the birth of the Central Maine Brittany Club and was elected and served a term as its president. During the late 1970s and early 1980s, Short traveled throughout New England and successfully participated in bird dog field trials.
Short’s hobbies include reading about politics and political figures from all over the world, metal art and bird hunting with his German Shorthair, Maggie.
Short married Debora Hapworth in November 1972 at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Waterville, where they continue to worship to this day. They have a shared love of working on their old farmhouse in Pittsfield and are proud of what they have accomplished together. They raised two children, Derek and Gillian, and have been blessed with five grandchildren.
