About Rep. Cleary

Representative Richard C. Cleary is a Maine native. He represents Houlton, the town where he was born and now maintains a law practice and home. He has close ties to every town in his district. He was raised in Cary Plantation, attended high school in Hodgdon and served as the Town of Orient’s attorney. He has hunted and fished often in Amity and also has close friends there, including current or former football players that he has coached.

Rep. Cleary was first elected to the Maine House of Representatives in 2006 and is serving his second term. He serves on the Business, Research and Economic Development Committee and the Judiciary Committee. He maintains a busy law practice, serves as one of only five bankruptcy trustees in the State of Maine, coaches football and runs, road cycles, cross-country skis and snowshoes. He enjoys reading and writing and has had a number of short stories, articles and law essays published. He was admitted to the Maine bar in 1993 and the Federal bar in 1994. He has one daughter who is about to enter college.
