About Rep. Rines

Rep. Peter L. Rines, was born and raised in Wiscasset and graduated from Wiscasset High School in 1981. In 1980, at the age of 18, he was elected to the town’s budget committee and for the past 10 years has been serving as a member of the Board of Appeals.

Rep. Rines received a fire science technology associate’s degree from Southern Maine Technical College and worked for 24 years as a firefighter, earning the rank of captain. He also worked as an emergency medical technician and served as the director of the Wiscasset Ambulance Service. He is now the certification program manager for Maine Fire Training & Education on the Southern Maine Community College campus.

He is currently serving his fourth term in the Maine House of Representatives. Rep. Rines’ major areas of policy interests include education funding, tax reform and electricity policy. He serves on the Utilities and Energy Committee and is the House chair of Bills in the Second Reading.

Rep. Rines enjoys woodworking, gardening and his fully restored 1928 Ford Model A.
