Rep. Gilbert
Rep. Paul Gilbert is a lifelong resident of Jay. He graduated from Jay
High School before serving in the U.S. Army for 3 years. Following completion
of his military service, he attended the University of Maine Farmington
earning a bachelor ’s degree in 1972.
Rep. Gilbert has more than 30 years of private and public sector
management experience. He managed supermarkets prior to his long
career as a Job Service Manager at the Maine Department of Labor.
In his retirement he continues to be an active member of MSEA/SEIU
Local 1989 and the Maine Council of Senior Citizens. Rep. Gilbert
volunteers at the Senior Plus Western Maine Area Agency on Aging
helping people access information regarding the “circuit
breaker” program. He is on the board of Western Maine Community
Action (WMCA), a social service agency that provides services for
the people living in the western mountain region of Maine. He served
on the board of Friends Together, a group that works with people
suffering from mental illness and their families.
In 2008, after the announcement of the closing of the Wausau Mill
in Jay, Rep. Gilbert and Louise Chabot founded the Good Neighbor
Fuel Fund, which helps any former Wausau Mill worker affected by
the mill closing, or residents of Jay, Livermore, or Livermore
Falls with emergency fuel assistance. Rep. Gilbert also volunteers
with Literacy Volunteers.
Rep. Gilbert and his wife of 38 years, Jean, have 3 grown children
and 8 grandchildren.
