About
Rep. Carey
Rep. Carey is serving his third term in the Maine House of Representatives
having joined the 123rd Legislature in 2008 after winning a special
election for the vacant seat in House District 72. He serves as
the House Democratic lead member on the Joint Standing Committee
on Veterans and Legal Affairs and is a member of the special committee
on Regulatory Fairness and Reform.
Rep. Carey is a student at the University of Maine School of
Law and expects to graduate in 2012. He is volunteer Board Chair
for Community Concepts (a $30 million, 300-employee Western Maine
social service agency). He is active in pursuing economic development
through historic renovation and affordable housing. He is on
the board of AVESTA Housing, the largest housing developer in
Maine, worked for a number of years for a private housing developer,
chaired the city of Lewiston’s task force , which considered
redevelopment options for the Bates Mill Building No. 5, and
was an active board member of Androscoggin Habitat for Humanity.
Rep. Carey grew up in Leeds and matriculated to Dartmouth College
where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in History. In addition
to his work, community involvement and legislative service, Rep.
Carey enjoys hiking and biking.
