Committee Chairs
Each of the joint committees has one House chair and one Senate chair,
nine additional representatives and two more senators for a total
of 13 members. The committees are organized by policy area and members
are considered the experts on the matters they review. After reviewing,
holding public hearings, and voting on proposed legislation, the
committee makes a recommendation to the entire House and Senate on
whether the proposed legislation should be adopted. Committee chairs
are appointed by the Speaker of the House and the Senate President
and are generally members of the majority party.
