About Rep. Eves

Rep. Mark Eves, D-North Berwick was nominated as Speaker-Elect on Tuesday, Nov. 13, after Democrats won 89 seats in the House and regained the majority on Election Day. Rep. Eves will be entering his third term in the Maine House. He has dedicated his time in the Legislature and his professional career to improving the lives of children, seniors, and working families. 

For the past four years, Eves served on the Legislature's Health and Human Services Committee, most recently as the ranking House minority member. In his professional life, he is a marriage and family therapist by training and serves as business development director for Sweetser, a state-wide behavioral health care organization for children, adults and families. 

Eves has served as president of the Maine Association for Marriage and Family Therapy and as the federal liaison for the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy. He earned a master’s degree in marriage and family therapy from the Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary and a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Louisville.

Eves was born in California and moved to Maine 10 years ago with his wife, Laura. They have three young children, ages 7, 5, and 3.

Eves will be sworn in as Speaker on Dec. 5th when the Legislature convenes.
