About Rep. Miller

Lisa Miller is a 26-year resident of Somerville, where she and her husband, Roy, have raised three boys (Nathan—25, Brian—21, and Terry—18). Lisa was born, raised, and educated in California, where she obtained her college degree in human biology from Stanford University. She also has a graduate degree in public health from the University of Michigan. Husband Roy is the founding physician of the Sheepscot Valley Health Center in rural Coopers Mills.

Lisa has worked the past 10 years as Senior Program Officer for a Maine health foundation called The Bingham Program. Prior to that she operated her own small consulting business for 12 years. Since arriving in Maine in 1977, Lisa has spent the better part of both her work and volunteer life advocating for:

• access to health care
• community-based efforts to prevent disease and promote health
• protection of the environment
• quality education in rural schools

Lisa has a strong commitment to small town civic life, having served 5 years on the Somerville School Committee, 22 years as the town health officer, and three years as a regional recycling volunteer. She has also spent at least 17 years volunteering in various capacities for the town school and the town fire department women’s auxiliary.

Rep. Miller currently chairs the Board of the Maine Health Information Center, is Vice Chair of the Maine Health Access Foundation and serves on the Maine Quality Forum Advisory Committee. She has served on various other Boards and commissions such as: the Maine Center for Economic Policy, Maine Philanthropy Center, and the Family Planning Association of Maine.

When she is not occupied with legislative issues and public service, you can find Lisa in mid-September at the T-shirt booth for the Common Ground Country Fair, where she and her husband have coordinated purchase and sales of Fair –related items for the past 12 years.
