Rep. Casavant is serving his fourth term in the Legislature and is a member of the Criminal Justice and Public Safety Committee. He has previously served on the State and Local Government, Judiciary, and Education Committees.
After graduating from Biddeford High School, Casavant went on to earn his bachelor's degree at the University of Maine at Orono, where he majored in Psychology. In 2004, he completed his Master's Degree in American and New England Studies at the University of Southern Maine.
He returned to Biddeford High School shortly after his college graduation to take a position as a teacher at his alma mater. Casavant taught there for 35 years, teaching over 3,000 students. He taught American Studies, 20th Century World History (Global Studies), and Psychology, as well as coaching ice hockey and soccer, before retiring in 2011. Casavant served as a Biddeford City Councilman from 1976 to 1992, and served four terms as council President. He is a member of the Friends of the University of New England and the fraternal organization, St. Jean Baptiste de Bienfaisance. He is very involved in Franco culture and studies. He is currently serving as the Mayor of Biddeford, Chairman of the Biddeford School Board, and is a member of the Mayors’ Coalition.
Rep. Casavant lives in Biddeford with his fiancée Patti Jalbert and their dog Belle.
