Augusta- The Maine Jobs Council is seeking nominations for the 2010 Silver Collar Employer award. The award honors employers in Maine whose policies and practices match the needs of mature employers, capturing their skills and experience, strong work ethic, flexibility and enthusiasm.
“Successful businesses recognize that experienced, motivated employees are a key to their success,” said Garret Oswald, director of the Maine Jobs Council. “Silver collar employees recognize and benefit from the qualities older workers bring to their jobs.”
Nomination forms can be found on the Maine Jobs Council website at: www.maine.gov/labor/mjc. The entry deadline is July 21, 2010. All nominations will be reviewed by the Maine Jobs Council Older Workers Committee, composed of representatives from the private sector, nonprofit agencies and government. The selection process will consider flexible work options, training and development opportunities, pension and health benefits, and age-neutral policies and practices.
Silver Collar Employers will be honored during “Employ Older Workers Week” in September.
Newcastle-based retailer RH Reny was the 2009 Silver Collar Award recipient. The company provides flexible benefits, alternative work schedules, and workplace accommodations to support older workers. All Reny’s employees, including older workers, receive technical and basic computer training.
The Maine Jobs Council leads, advises, and manages the effort to create a world-class workforce development system in Maine. As the Statewide Workforce Investment Board, the Council manages by overseeing the implementation of workforce development programs.
