August Programs for Job Seekers at the York County CareerCenter

SPRINGVALE?The York County CareerCenter in Springvale is offering programs in August for job seekers and those considering training to upgrade their skills and increase their employability.

?There will be several jobs fairs held across the state this fall,? said Governor Paul R. LePage. ?August is a great time to improve your resume and to prepare for those job fair interviews. CareerCenters can help both individuals who need a job and businesses that need to hire workers.?

CareerCenters, part of the Maine Department of Labor, offer a variety of services to help people find employment or upgrade skills. Each center provides several public-access computer workstations with Microsoft Office software, resume writing and cover letter software, Internet access and O?Net software for skills assessment. All CareerCenter services are free of charge.

CareerCenters can assist businesses recruit employees and can offer workshops at their location at no cost to the business. The following workshops and programs will be held at the CareerCenter in Springvale unless otherwise noted.

Resume Workshop - Tuesday, August 6, 9 a.m. to noon. Explore the basics of resume writing and learn how to promote the qualifications you have that directly match what the employer needs.

York County Networking Group: Brown Bag Networking, the second and fourth Tuesday of the month, 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Following our York County Works events, Take your job search to the next level by utilizing the power of Networking. Join your local York County Networking Group to meet other people and share strategies, tips and leads. Remember, it only takes one piece of information to lead you to your next opportunity. Bring a lunch and bring a friend! All are welcome. No reservation required.

Interview Workshop - Tuesday, August 20, 9 a.m. to noon. Learn new interviewing techniques by role playing interviews. Registration required.

Human Resource Panel Discussion - Tuesday, August 27, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Join us and three Human Resources directors from local companies who will discuss the ?ins-and-outs? of resume and job application reviews, including job interviews and appropriate follow-up techniques. GATEways to Employment - Monday, August 26, 9 a.m. to noon. Join us for the beginning installment of our ?workshop trilogy.? Learn how assessments can identify abilities, interests and skills and discover the unadvertised job market. Other topics include Job Search Strategies, Resume and Cover Letter Tips and Interviewing. Essentials of College Planning Workshop ? Monday, August 29, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Randi Paine from the Maine Educational Opportunity Center (MEOC) will be offering a free workshop for adults 19 and older covering topics on College Awareness and Planning along with the Federal Financial Aid process. The instructor will assist participants in completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Adecco Staffing - Thursday August 1, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. An Adecco representative will be recruiting at the York County CareerCenter in Springvale. Current openings are with Poland Springs, Corning Life Sciences and GE. No reservation required.

Springborn Staffing ? Tuesday August 6 and 20, 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. A representative from Springborn Staffing will be recruiting at the York County CareerCenter. Openings are available for experienced production, assembly and warehouse personnel. Applicants must have reliable transportation. Please bring two valid forms of ID and a resume to the interview. Health insurance benefits are available.

Women Unlimited - Non-Traditional Occupations Specialist consultations for those interested in exploring non-traditional occupations (NTO) for women and who are considering a potentially better-paying job. Contact Sue LeClair, NTO specialist at (207) 215-6992.

Goodwill Workforce Solutions administers federally funded employment and training programs through the Workforce Investment Act (WIA). Certain eligibility requirements apply. If you think you might qualify or could benefit from this program please call the Workforce Solutions Center in Biddeford at 207-571-3301 to schedule a date for a training orientation.

Maine Centers for Women, Work & Community offer no cost classes in Assertive Communication, Creating Your Future, Creating the Rest of Your Life, Credit Yourself, Entrepreneurial Training, Financing Your Future, Professional Development and Mature Worker Activities.
