Maine Prevailing Wage Data Now Available Online

Data visualization displays wages by county, year and type of construction

AUGUSTA?The Department of Labor?s Bureau of Labor Standards has created a new, interactive database displaying the state?s Prevailing Wage data. The visualization is available on the department?s website at http://www.maine.gov/labor/laborstats/publications/wagerateconst/prevailingwage_dashboard.shtml .

?We?re making the information that employers need more accessible and more available online,? said Commissioner of Labor Jeanne Paquette.

Prevailing Wage rates are the wages that contractors must pay workers on state-contracted public works projects that cost $50,000 or more.

?The Maine State Prevailing Wage Tableau site is a tool to assist the public in finding wages that pertain to specific occupations within the Prevailing Wage guidelines by county, year and type of construction,? explains Commissioner Paquette. ?It also provides a five-year comparison to view the wages within the Prevailing Wage law requirements?these are set by data collected annually via a survey of all construction companies working in Maine.?

All public works projects led and funded by a state agency that cost $50,000 or more must have a Prevailing Wage determination attached to the bid document. Each determination includes the minimum hourly wages paid and benefits provided to the construction workers during the project. Law requires the official determination to be posted at the work site. All payrolls must be certified.
