Maine CareerCenter Veterans Representatives took part in a four day Transition Assistance Program workshop this week for 65 retiring veterans representing all branches of the U.S. Armed Forces.

The forums are held several times a year at the Brunswick Naval Air Station and typically include an audience of between 60 and 100 people. CareerCenter Veteran Representatives host several sessions on job searches, career decision-making, current occupational and labor market conditions, and resume and cover letter preparation and interviewing techniques. Participants also are provided with an evaluation of their employability relative to the job market and are connected with the name of a veteran representative in the area where they plan to locate after completion of their military service.

Transition Assistance Program workshops are held at military installations all across the country, but the program hosted in Maine is widely considered to be among the best. A recent national evaluation of the program found that service members who took part in the program found their first post-military job three weeks sooner than those who did not participate.
