PRESQUE ISLE?The Presque Isle CareerCenter announces May programming for job seekers and those who are considering training to upgrade their skills to increase their employability.

?Residents of Aroostook County who are looking for a new job can get free assistance from the CareerCenter,? said Governor Paul R. LePage. ?Today?s job market is different than it was even a few years ago, and CareerCenter staff can connect you with today?s job search tools, like email addresses and tips on filling out online applications.?

All businesses looking to hire and people looking for work should register with the Maine Job Bank. This month the Job Bank has approximately 23,000 registered job seekers and more than 5,000 job openings. There is no cost to create a profile if you are a job seeker or to list a job if you are an employer.

Workshops and events are held at the CareerCenter unless otherwise noted. Maine Veterans receive priority of service in all CareerCenter programs.

Creating Winning Resumes?Workshops offered May 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29; 9 a.m.?noon. Learn how to create a professional resume and walk out the door with one in hand after this three-hour workshop.

Gateways to Employment?This workshop is offered in two locations: Houlton on May 21; 9 to 10 a.m., and in Presque Isle on May 24, 9 a.m. to noon. Want to jump start your job search? Learn new strategies, proper interviewing skills and the correct way to fill out a job application.

Interview Workshop?May 17, 10 to 11 a.m. Interviewing formats are constantly changing. Find out what to expect when you walk in to sit down with an employer.

Job Information Employer Panel in Madawaska?May 8, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Come and meet several area employers and hear them talk about what they look for on a resume and in interviews. Find out what makes you stand out above all others and how to make the right impression. In the afternoon, participate in resume and interview workshops.

Job Search Tips for People with a Criminal History?May 17, 9?10 a.m. Do you have a criminal background? Are you having trouble finding work? This workshop will give job search tips, suggestions on how to respond to those hard-to-answer questions and identify where best to seek employment that will lead to a successful job search.

Targeted Veteran?s Workshop: Graduation and the Job Search?May 28, 10 a.m.?noon. It?s a competitive job market. This job search skills workshop provides the tools needed for graduating veterans to be successful in a job search, including strategies to highlight skills and set yourself apart from the others?it?s all about marketing yourself!

CareerCenters, part of the Maine Department of Labor, offer a variety of services to help people find employment or upgrade skills. Each center provides several public-access computer workstations with Microsoft Office software, resume writing and cover letter software, Internet access and O?Net software for skills assessment. All CareerCenter services are free of charge.
