Augusta CareerCenter Relocates

Augusta ? The Augusta CareerCenter is moving next week to brand new office space at 21 Enterprise Drive in Augusta. The staff will move from offices at the Augusta Business Park to a newly constructed building located immediately off Civic Center Drive (Rt. 27) next to the old Digital/SCI/Sanmina building in the direction of Belgrade.

Maine Labor Commissioner Laura Fortman said that the relocation comes as the CareerCenter works to consolidate resources, save money, and improve the way services are provided to the public. ?Although the building is brand new and offers new amenities for customers and staff, the cost is less than the old location and will save the agency nearly $250,000 over the next seven years.?

The floorplan was designed by CareerCenter staff to maximize space and services for jobseekers and employers who use the facility. In addition to the computers, reference materials, and meeting space available to the public, the new CareerCenter will offer wireless internet access to customers who bring their own notebook computers. The new building has plenty of parking and includes a much more accessible entrance for people with disabilities. Kennebec Valley Transit has added the building to the bus line.

In preparation for the move the Augusta CareerCenter will be closed Monday and Tuesday next week as staff move furniture and equipment to the new location. The doors at the new facility will open to jobseekers and employers at 8:00 AM on Wednesday, January 23.

The Augusta CareerCenter hosts many different activities catered to those in the job market. Customers can receive one-on-one assistance with their job search or career planning or participate in one of many regularly scheduled workshops on r?sum? writing, interview skills, self employment, college planning, and job hunting. Veterans? representatives are available to provide counseling on programs and benefits available to qualified veterans. Specialized employment services are also provided to assist people with disabilities in finding or keeping a job.

The CareerCenter also provides information on training and health care benefits available to job seekers and workers.

Services to employers include worker recruiting, use of interviewing rooms, screening and assessment, labor market information and training resources.

Traffic at the CareerCenter varies seasonally. On average, the Augusta CareerCenter serves about 4,500 customers a month.
