Occupational Safety and Health Data Collection and Injury Prevention Work Group Minutes Bureau of Labor Standards Central Maine Commerce Center Frances Perkins Conference Rooms A & B February 20, 2008 Present: William Peabody, Chair (Maine Department of Labor); Peter Doran (Maine Occupational Research Agenda); Jeff Levesque (Workers' Compensation Board); Kim Lim (Maine Department of Labor); Al May (Maine Center for Disease Control); Louise Morang (Maine Association of Occupational Nurses); Kathy Schulz (Workers' Compensation Board); and Leslie Walleigh (Workplace Health). Guests, MORA: Ginger Jordan-Hillier, Ruth Lawson-Stopps, Jonathan Lepoff, and Michael Rowland Guests: Al Prysunka, Director, Maine Health Data Organization; Brian Sullivan, Compliance Assistant; OSHA; and Lisa Parker, Database Administration, Department of Health & Human Services. Staff Present: Terry Hathaway. Call to Order: Bill Peabody called the meeting to order at 10:15 a.m. Introductions: As this was a joint Occupational Safety and Health Data Collection and Injury Prevention Work Group/MORA (Maine Occupational Research Agenda) meeting, introductions were necessary as there were several guests. January 16, 2008 Minutes. Peter Doran made a motion to accept the January 16th minutes as written. Jeff Levesque seconded the motion. Vote, unanimous. Maine Health Data Organization Presentation ? Al Prysunka. Al did a power point presentation on the Maine Health Data Organization (MHDO), which was established as an independent executive agency in 1996. The purpose of the MHDO is to create useful, objective reliable, and comprehensive health information database used to improve the health of Maine citizens. Also, Al provided an overview of the MHDO databases. Further information is available at www.mhdo.maine.gov/mhdo as well as www.healthweb.state.me.us 2007 Report to the Legislature ? Bill Peabody. Bill announced that the Legislative Report for the Occupational Safety and Health Data Collection and Injury Prevention Work Group has been completed and printed. Copies are available for those who want to take one. The report needs to go to the Labor Committee. Al May and Leslie Walleigh are to let Bill know about the report going to the Health and Human Services Committee. Then, the report will be available on the Maine Department of Labor website. Bill also announced that the ?Annual Report on the Status of the Maine Workers? Compensation System? (a/k/a ?Troika Report?) has been printed and is also available on the Maine Department of Labor website. Membership. Tabled to the March 19th meeting. Review of 2008 Start-Up.
