RE: Local Action Planning Committee Guidelines
In order for Maine to achieve the vision that each Maine student graduates from high school college ready and able to meet the challenges of a technology-based economy (career ready), there is an urgent need to build an integrated, collaborative, dynamic education system that provides opportunities for all Maine students. Total integration is a long-term process that must start now.
To this end I am requiring that the sending schools and the Career and Technical Education (CTE) center or region in each area convene a Local Action Planning Committee composed of their stakeholder groups to develop a Local Action Plan for the implementation of the CTE strategic plan recommendations. The initial Local Action Plan, with a timeline for the plan, must be submitted to the Department of Education by December 31, 2006.
Attached are the guidelines for the formation of the Committees and the expected outcomes of the Local Action Plan. Funds have been made available through the National Governors Association grant to provide some assistance in the development of the Local Action Plans. The form by which the CTE directors can request the funds is also attached. Both documents are available online at www.schoolswork.org.
