Figure 7. Moraine ridge in Cherryfield (Stop 18 on Ice Age Trail). Bouldery moraines such as this one are common in eastern coastal Maine. The sandy soils on moraines, submarine fans, and deltas are extensively cultivated for blueberries. The blueberry plants turn bright red in fall, rivaling the tree foliage for color. Photo by W. B.
