Mineral Collecting Field Trips

Field Trip Guidelines

Before registering, please read the REQUIREMENTS AND GUIDELINES which are applicable to all trips.

Trip Registration

  1. Participants must individually e-mail or call Thompson, on or after the specified date and time indicated on the web page for each trip, to sign up for the trip, giving the information indicated below.
  2. Registrants can only sign up for themselves and immediate family members. There will be no club or other group enrollments.
  3. In order to allow participation for as many people as possible, each person will initially be allowed to sign up for only one trip per year. However, if vacancies still remain within four weeks of the trip date, these vacancies will be announced on the MGS website and then will be open to anyone.
  4. The cut-off date for registration will be two weeks prior to the field trip. Any person who registers and fails to show without providing good reason may be excluded from future trips.
  5. A notice will be posted on our website if and when the trip has filled, so please don’t call or e-mail after that time.

Registration Procedure

  • E-mail reservations are much preferred. Please note that only e-mail reservations and successful phone reservations will be acknowledged, and acknowledgements can only be handled from the Maine Geological Survey during our office hours. No reservations will be accepted or handled by any other party.
  • When reserving by e-mail or phone, clearly indicate the following information:
    • the trip location for which you want to register
    • your first and last name
    • the name of other immediate family member(s) wanting to attend
    • your area code/phone number, and
    • your postal address.

I must have this information to confirm successful reservations and prepare a list for the field trip host. I will attempt to answer e-mails regardless of whether you e-mailed in time to reserve a place on the trip. Phone calls will be answered only to confirm successful reservations made prior to the cut-off date.
