DirectionsGo on U. S. Route 2 to the small village of Hanover, Maine (between Bethel and Rumford). Just west of Gordie Howe’s store in Hanover, turn north onto Howard Pond Rd. Go about 2.2 miles and turn right at sign for "Plumbago Mtn. Farm." Go up driveway to Bob Brown’s residence. Park here to consolidate vehicles and get further instructions on proceeding to the mines. Mine road continues straight ahead through field just beyond house. This trip requires a drive on a narrow dirt woods road for nearly 4 miles. Although the road is generally in good condition, there may be a few muddy spots or rough stretches with rocks in the road. Drivers may need a truck, SUV, or other vehicle with good ground clearance.
