Valuing Maine’s Beaches:

Assets, Challenges, and Actions for Today and Tomorrow

Concurrent Session I

The State of Maine's Beaches in 2009

This session will be an overview of highlights of recent trends at some of Maine's large and popular recreational beaches. This will include municipalities of York, Ogunquit, Wells, Kennebunk, Kennebunkport, Biddeford, Saco, Old Orchard Beach, Scarborough, Cape Elizabeth, South Portland, and Phippsburg. Beach conditions following the 2007 Patriots' Day Storm will be explored. Studies of water quality at some locations will be reviewed and suggestions made for improving public health.

Additional specific beach profile trends and results will be available in poster format at the Multimedia Session and in the MGS publication matching the session name.
