The Effects of Climate Change on Maine's Beaches: How a Sound Energy Policy can Mitigate these Effects

  • Beth Nagusky, Director, Innovation and Assistance, Maine Dept. of Environmental Protection

This presentation will discuss the most probable impacts of climate change on Maine's beaches, what we must do to begin to plan and prepare for these impacts, and how adopting sustainable energy policies in Maine, in the U.S. and globally can help mitigate these impacts. We will review actions by Governor Baldacci and the State of Maine over the past several years to implement a more sustainable energy policy that also creates jobs in Maine and improves our energy security. The work of the Governor's Ocean Energy Task Force, which Ms. Nagusky co-chairs will be specifically discussed.
