Figure 3. Colors used for stratified rock units on the 1985 Bedrock Geologic Map of Maine indicate the inferred age or age range of the unit. For the common age designations a lighter shade is available for broad units, and a complementary darker shader for thinner units. The initial capital letter of each map unit label also carries the same age information as the color.
