Figure 5. The famous line of question marks in central Maine. Rock to the west, which had been mapped as Devonian (Ds), are headed toward rocks to the east mapped as Silurian (Su). Rather than trying to resolve this apparent contradiction by office negotiation, the compilers chose to leave this problem displayed clearly and honestly on the map.
