Augusta, Maine: Maine Superintendent of Insurance Alessandro A. Iuppa today announced three upcoming educational sessions on workers' compensation insurance for employers and agents.

“These sessions are a continuation of the Bureau’s Get Smart About Insurance initiative which began in January,” stated Superintendent Iuppa. “Our goal in conducting these outreach sessions is to educate Maine citizens about insurance coverages and to let them know that the Bureau of Insurance is here to provide them with impartial insurance information.”

“We want to encourage people to take advantage of these sessions,” stressed Iuppa. “Our ongoing goal is to increase people’s awareness about their insurance coverage and to let them know that the Bureau can help them with their questions.”

Topics for the workers’ compensation sessions will include: a discussion of coverage and employer's liability insurance, a review of the declarations page (including other states coverage), claim settlement and policyholder's responsibilities, premium determination, assessments on policies, pre-payment of premium, premium auditing, coverage issues for sole proprietors and partners and executive directors, independent contractor status, cancellation and non-renewal issues, consultation services, reasons for premium increases and how to lower workers' compensation costs.

The sessions are free and are directed toward Maine employers and agents. Presentations will be held on the following dates:

Wednesday, July 20 from 10:00 AM to Noon at Southern Maine Community College
Jewett Auditorium in South Portland.

Wednesday, July 27 from 10:00 AM to Noon at the Maine Bureau of Insurance,

Wednesday, August 3rd from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the University of Maine at Orono
